Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, Cummins Inc.
Jennifer Rumsey is Vice President and Chief Technical Officer at Cummins Inc. In this role she leads the global technical organization of approximately 10,000 employees responsible for research and engineering across Cummins business segments. As a member of the Cummins Leadership Team, Rumsey plays a key role in setting the strategy for the company, which includes a commitment to leading in critical technologies and providing a broad portfolio of power solutions for its global customers in diverse industries. Rumsey brings experience across the product development life cycle in setting strategies, developing and delivering new products and tools, and solving tough problems. She is known for setting challenging goals and then empowering and developing a capable, diverse team to deliver.
Her early career focused on control systems and system engineering; initially at a fuel processing and fuel cell start-up company in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2000 she moved to Cummins and has worked in a variety of engineering roles across Cummins' Engine and Components businesses including advanced technology development, new product development, current product engineering, and quality. Rumsey has extensive international experience with Cummins global customers including PACCAR, Komatsu and Dong Feng, and has served on the board of East Asia Research & Development, the engineering facility serving Cummins product and technology development in China and the Cummins-WABCO Joint Venture.
She is a member of the Society of Women Engineers, Society of Automotive Engineers and Women in Trucking Association and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Rumsey has received a number of awards and spoken in a variety of industry and academic settings. She maintains involvement at Purdue as a member of the Engineering Advisory Council and sponsor of the Cummins-Purdue relationship. She is a champion of STEM education and diversity and has been involved as a FIRST Robotics Mentor, member of SWE, and leader in Cummins diversity and inclusion efforts.
Jennifer and her husband Jim have two daughters and are active members of First United Methodist church in Columbus. They enjoy hiking, cycling, and traveling.
